When we say 'Percent' we are really saying 'per 100'
One percent (1%) means 1 per 100.

1% of this line is shaded green: it is very small isn't it?

That bench top is 2 feet deep x 5 feet long. I did it on locking casters for easy maneuverability and also added a Record woodworking vise off the left side that sits in an 8' overhang on that side. All the hardware came from 80/20.
25% means 25 per 100 (25% of this box is green) |
Examples:
100% means all. Example: 100% of 80 is 100100 × 80 = 80 |
50% means half. |
5% means 5/100ths. Example: 5% of 80 is 5100 × 80 = 4 |
Using Percent
Use the slider and try some different numbers
(What is 40% of 80? What is 10% of 200? What is 90% of 10?)
Because 'Percent' means 'per 100' think:
So 75% really means 75100
And 100% is 100100, or exactly 1 (100% of any number is just the number, unchanged)
And 200% is 200100, or exactly 2 (200% of any number is twice the number)
A Percent can also be expressed as a Decimal or aFraction

Some Worked Examples
Example: Calculate 25% of 80
25% = 25100
And 25100 × 80 = 20
So 25% of 80 is 20
Example: 15% of 200 apples are bad. How many apples are bad?
15% = 15100
And 15100 × 200 | = 15 × 200100 |
= 15 × 2 | |
= 30 apples |
30 apples are bad
Example: if only 10 of the 200 apples are bad, what percent is that?
As a fraction, 10200 = 0.05
As a percentage it is: 10200 x 100 = 5%
5% of those apples are bad
Example: A Skateboard is reduced 25% in price in a sale.
The old price was $120.
Find the new price.
First, find 25% of $120:
25% = 25100
And 25100 × $120 = $30
25% of $120 is $30
So the reduction is $30
Take the reduction from the original price
80-20 T Slot
$120 − $30 = $90
The Price of the Skateboard in the sale is $90
Calculation Trick
This little rule can make some calculations easier:
x% of y = y% of x
Example: 8% of 50
8% of 50 is the same as 50% of 8
And 50% of 8 is 4
So 8% of 50 is also 4

Percent vs Percentage

My Dictionary says 'Percentage' is the 'result obtained by multiplying a quantity by a percent'. So 10 percent of 50 apples is 5 apples: the 5 apples is the percentage.
But in practice people use both words the same way.

Browse our selection of AR-15 80% lowers. We offer exclusive 5D Tactical billet lower receiver designs as well as forged Mil-Spec 80% lower receivers. When choosing an 80% lower receiver for your next build, there are a number of factors to consider. When it comes to aluminum AR-15 80% lowers in particular, there are commonly two choices - billet and forged. Within that, you will find two common aluminum types being used for billet lower receivers. Billet 80% lowers begin their lives as solid blocks of aluminum that are CNC machined from beginning to end, with varying designs available that will suit any style. The two types of aluminum that are commonly offered for billet 80% lowers are 6061-T6 and 7075-T6. Both are very high strength grades of aluminum. 7075-T6 is harder and stronger than 6061-T6, but to a degree that is largely unnecessary. In other words, a billet AR-15 80% lower milled from 6061-T6 is multiple times stronger than required for the application. 6061-T6 billet 80% lowers are preferred by many for finishing an 80% lower at home, because the output is an 80% lower that is easier to drill and mill for the user. Still, some prefer 7075-T6 due to the increased hardness and tensile strength, and our AR-15 Router Jig will make short work of either!
Forged 80% lowers, sometimes referred to as 'Mil-Spec' lower receivers are manufactured in a very different manner than billet 80% lowers. All forged 80% lowers start as 'receiver blanks' that are formed (forged) under high heat and pressure into the general shape of an 80% lower. There are only a handful of companies in the USA that are responsible for producing the majority of receiver blanks, which are then sold to machine shops and firearms manufacturers for finish machining. All forged AR-15 80% lowers are 7075-T6. The finished quality of a forged 80% lower depends entirely on a number of factors, starting with the finish machining. Our Forged AR-15 80% lowers are precision CNC machined to tolerances of +/- .001' and inspected thoroughly to ensure consistent quality. Next, consider the presence and quality of the FIRE/SAFE engraving. Our 80% lowers have the FIRE/SAFE markings present, engraved deeply in large, bold print. Finally, the quality of the hardcoat anodizing finish can make or break your build. A consistent, deep black finish that will match well with other hardcoat anodized components should be a major consideration. Our forged AR-15 80% lower receivers will arrive with a quality and consistent Type III Class 2 black hardcoat anodized finish completed per the standards set forth by MIL-A-8625.
